Hmmmm.I know you have probabley done more rear mains than I have in a VT.But I have done my share.When we Install a New rear main in a VT-365,We get the complete carrier with the seal installed in it.And I know for a Fact that you do not Use any lubricant.Just push the carrier on evenly and the plastic Installation sleeve will push itself out of the seal bore once it rides over the crank flange.If you are talking about removing the seal from the existing carrier and Installing a new one.The only thing you would do differently is put a Light film of silicone sealant around the outside of the seal before installing it in the carrier.Unless you are describing the style using the wear sleeve Then you would also have to put a few drops of loctite on the edge of the flange first.No dissrespect meant but You have me thinking which is not good /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/eek.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.The first indication of a problem was the check engine light came on but the truck continued to appear to run okay.
